WAGES AND BENEFITS

RESIDENTS DESERVE INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

2024-25 Resident Salaries

  • PGY-1  $65,603

  • PGY-2  $68,307

  • PGY-3  $70,519

Vacation

  • Residents receive 15 paid days of vacation annually.  These may be taken as seen fit by the resident during allowable rotations and do not have to be used as a block.  We work with our residents to ensure that their schedules are made to permit them to attend important family functions and other activities where they need to be out of town.

Additional Educational Expense Allowances

  • Geisinger feels it is important to make allowances to permit its residents to attend away conferences or purchase additional learning materials not typically provided by the residency program.  The package includes:

  • PGY1:  $750 for books and journals

  • PGY2 and PGY3:  $2500 each year for books, journals and expenses associated with conference attendance.  This money can also be used to pay for the American Board of Pediatrics Examination.

Additional Time Away

  • Geisinger has six paid holidays: New Year's  Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  Residents scheduled to work these days are given an additional day of vacation to use as they see fit.

  • Our residency program traditionally employs a "Holiday Block" during the latter half of December and into the new year.  This is typically a twelve day block during which residents are excused from work for either the first or second six days.  When possible, the program does take resident preference into account when making this schedule.

  • In addition to providing funding for conference attendance, residents are permitted to take an additional five days off during both the PGY2 and PGY3 years to attend outside lectures.

  • All residents receive five additional days of vacation which they can use for relocation purposes.  These are used typically by residents at the end of their residency to move to their new job or fellowship.  They can also be used to find housing or other activities related to relocating to a new home after graduation.
