OUR FACULTY

Highly Qualified Caregivers and Teachers

Our residents are primarily taught by a core faculty of over 70 board certified pediatricians and subspecialists, in addition to more than 30 medical faculty members with joint appointments in other disciplines including surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, psychiatry, pathology, and radiology. The hospital-based practice is further complemented by an extensive network of community pediatricians who practice within the Geisinger network throughout the surrounding counties. Although not located on our Danville campus, these pediatricians communicate with our residents as they share common patients and are a valuable source of information and advice about what to expect from a future career in pediatrics.

Subspecialty sections add to the diversity of the extensive general pediatric practice. These subspecialty sections include adolescent medicine, allergy, cardiology, child abuse, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology and nutrition, genetics, hematology/oncology, hospital medicine, immunology, infectious disease, neonatology, nephrology, neurodevelopmental pediatrics, neurology, palliative care, pediatric emergency medicine, pulmonology, and rheumatology. Additionally, a number of other pediatric specialists from both surgical and non-surgical fields are part of our teaching faculty. These include physicians with specific pediatric certification and expertise in anesthesia, cardiothoracic surgery, dentistry and oromaxillofacial surgery, dermatology, general surgery, orthopaedics, maternal and fetal medicine, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, psychiatry and psychology, radiology and neuroradiology, sports medicine, transplant surgery, trauma surgery, and urology.

Like our residents, our pediatric faculty choose to come to Geisinger because of the unique experience that it offers - a chance to practice academic primary and tertiary care pediatrics in a rural setting. In fact, a large number of our faculty are former members of our residency program who have returned after completing their subspecialty training or starting their careers in other locations. Our faculty are very approachable and really want to contribute to the education of our residents. Our faculty members serve as mentors and advisors, helping residents not only academically, but also coaching them and helping set a trajectory for their future in medicine.
